On Sunday, April 20, 2025, the Adventist-Laymen’s Services and Industries (ASI) Inter-American Division), in collaboration with Adventist World Radio (AWR), hosted a successful Cell Phone Evangelism Training session via Zoom. The workshop, which targeted the English-speaking region of the division, featured Brother Eduardo Canales, AWR Coordinator for the Americas, and attracted participants from across multiple territories.
The session offered practical guidance on how to use mobile phones to share the gospel, with a focus on leveraging tools like WhatsApp, SMS, and social media messaging to conduct digital Bible studies, follow-up with interests, and offer spiritual encouragement. By the end of the session, many attendees had signed up and been registered as official Cell Phone Evangelists with AWR, ready to put their training into practice.
“This training aligns perfectly with our motto—‘Sharing Christ in the Marketplace,’” said Rohan Riley, President of ASI Inter-America. “But today, that marketplace is not just a storefront or office. It’s the phone in our hands. That’s where people are—and that’s where we must be.”
The initiative is part of a growing global movement led by AWR, which has seen widespread success across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Cell Phone Evangelists trained by AWR have led thousands to Christ through digital means, demonstrating the effectiveness of this personal yet far-reaching method of outreach. The workshop encouraged lay professionals to see their devices not just as tools for communication, but as platforms for mission.
Mobile engagement is especially relevant in the Inter-American region, where smartphone usage ranges from 60% to over 75% in countries such as Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and the Bahamas. “With the data showing how connected our populations are,” Riley noted, “this approach allows every member to become a missionary—without ever leaving their home.”
At the conclusion of the event, Riley publicly thanked Adventist World Radio and Brother Canales for their support and forward-thinking approach to evangelism. “We deeply appreciate AWR’s partnership and their tireless efforts in training and empowering our members,” he said. “ASI Inter-America remains fully committed to ongoing collaboration with AWR as we continue to equip our chapters to reach souls through digital innovation and the power of the Holy Spirit.”
The Cell Phone Evangelism Training was not merely an information session—it was a call to action. With their phones charged and their hearts ignited, ASI members across Inter-America now stand better prepared to proclaim the gospel one message at a time
